    Bing I. Bush JrThe guest was Bing Bush, Jr., an attorney and expert in equine law and an advocate for horse conservation and preservation, Bush Law Offices. Richard and Joe talked with Mr. Bush about current projects he is involved in to bring more recognition to the world of horse racing.

    Mr. Bush was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky on a small farm near a horse park. He grew up riding horses for pleasure, then graduated to hunters, jumpers and event riding. After that he broke yearlings, exercised horses at the track and trained horses.

    Upon completing Law School at University of Kentucky, he moved to California and began as an associate attorney with the law firm of Mullen, Plummer, Badger (1987). He became a partner, forming Mullen, Plummer, Badger & Bush in 1995 and remained there until 1999 and founded his own law firm focused representing jockeys and owners in the racing business, he opened offices in Kentucky and San Diego.

    Bing Bush RacehorsesHis largest client to date is the estate of Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed al Maktoum, son of ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. Mr Bush has made several trips to Dubai to collaborate with his excellency, Sheikh Rashid. Tragically, Sheikh Rashid suffered a heart attack and died a few weeks ago at the age of 33.

    Mr. Bush is also involved with horse rescue organizations such as After the Finish Line and the Wild for Life Foundation, as well as being on the board of the Red Bucket Rescue.

    joel_bioRichard and Joe welcome back Joel Grushkin, the San Diego Regional Director of Cost Segregation Initiatives (CSI), and Company President, Curt Gautreau. Curt is based out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and his accounting practice focuses on emerging businesses, primarily real estate management and development.

    CSI specializes in cost segregation, which is an IRS sanctioned procedure of re-classifying the improvements and components of commercial buildings in order to increase cash flow and reduce income tax liability.

    CSI performs this service for owners of several different types of commercial properties such as, but not limited to, medical facilities, shopping centers, hotels, and automotive dealerships.   • Running as Good Medicine with Steve Scott, Mark Sarno and Nick Scarpello

    steve_scottRichard and Joe put on their running shoes. They interviewed Steve Scott, America’s greatest miler. Steve has posted three outdoor U.S. Mile records, a World Championship silver medal, two Olympic appearances and an astounding 136 sub-4 minute miles. No one ran more sub-4 minute miles than Steve Scott. His 3:47.69 mile in 1982 was the second-fastest mile ever run and stood as the U.S.record for 25 years. Steve was the founder of the Carlsbad 5000 road race and set world-best 5K times in 1986 and 1988. In 1999 Steve became the cross-country country coach at Cal State San Marcos achieving remarkable success building the team from the ground up into perennial contenders in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

    Although he has had an outstanding running career, his life has not been without challenges. Twenty years ago he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which he beat, and a little over a year ago he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has successfully finished his treatment and is now using his experience to increase public awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection.

    Joining Richard, Joe and Steve were Mark Sarno and Nick Scarpello. Mark is an award winning scientist, inventor, biostatistician, scientific advisory board member, doctor of law, and licensed patent agent with 32 years experience in research, development, clinical/regulatory, biostatistics, patent law, and project management resulting in 44 commercialized products (8 drugs, 36 in vitro diagnostic assays). He is also an avid runner and the co-founder of The Encinitas Mile. The Encinitas Mile is the ultimate test of speed and endurance takes place along the fast, flat USATF-certified course on Vulcan Avenue in downtown Encinitas.

    Nick is Brand & Creative Communications Project Administrator at Illumina and the marketing and communications specialist for The Encinitas Mile.

    Dana Mathewson is a 24- year old local wheelchair tennis phenom, and we raised funds for a new high-tech wheelchair and travel expenses for 2016’s national wheelchair championships.

A Certified Financial Planner, Paul founded Hearthstone in 2006 leaving a successful 22-year career at a large Wall Street investment firm. The major topic of discussion will be retirement planning.

    Paul has a passion for educating and empowering people to make informed decisions in all aspects of their lives, not just financial ones. Together with several other committed professionals, he has formed an alliance “Senior Safe & Sound.” The group believes that no human being in San Diego County should ever have to suffer from financial elder abuse again.

    Paul graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in psychology. He has also completed the professional education program for the Certified Financial Planner requirements at the College for Financial Planning. Paul is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), and various Estate Planning Councils. Paul was the President of the Strategic Trusted Advisors Roundtable (STAR).

  • Turkey Trot Celebrates 10th Year of Moving Their Feet Before They Eat

    Richard and Joe welcome Kathy Kinane, President of Kinane Events, Inc., and spokeswoman for the O’side Turkey Trot, Anne Garrett.

    Photo of Move Your Feet Before You Eat Co-Founder Kathy KinaneKathy Kinane has been marketing, managing and participating in running races, triathlons, bike tours, sports tournaments for over 30 years, and she was honored last February on RunningUSA.com as a 2015 Trailblazer. Kinane Events has put on 190 events in the last two decades. Richard and Kathy co-founded The Move Your Feet Before You Eat Foundation that puts on the 5k and other races held in downtown Oceanside on Thanksgiving morning. Celebrating its 10th year, the Turkey trot has added a NEW 10k race this year. The event benefits Oceanside schools and local charities.

    Anne-GarrettAnne Garrett, 81, is the spokeswoman for the O’side Turkey. In March 2015, at the Carlsbad 5000, Garrett set an age-group record in the 5K. She completed the race in 28:37, nearly a minute faster than the previous record of 29:23 for her age-group.

    In February, Ms. Garrett set the half marathon record for her age group, running a 2:13:23 at the Surf City Half Marathon in Huntington Beach.

    At the Turkey Trot his year, the number of runners is expected to grow well above 15,000. The O’side Turkey Trot has become a Thanksgiving tradition in Oceanside with local volunteers turning out in droves to support the runners.
