The Life and Times of San Diego’s Most Notable Architect Rob Quigley

Saturday night’s show featured Rob Wellington Quigley, a man that has impacted the beauty of San Diego through his design. For those who are unfamiliar with his name, there is a good chance that they are familiar with his work including the Ocean Discovery Institute’s “Living Lab” or San Diego’s new Central Library. Earning his Bachelor’s of Architecture in 1969 from the University of Utah, Mr. Quigley began his professional life serving in the Peace Corps designing low cost housing for the poor in Chile for two years. It was upon his return that he settled in San Diego and opened his firm.

In the beginning he focused on not only creating low cost housing, but how to make that housing energy sustainable. As his career progressed he began to receive more recognition from his peers in the architectural field. With this recognition he was asked to create the plans for civic projects in San Diego and statewide.
