Scott_Peters Richard and Joe welcomed Congressional Candidate hopeful, Scott Peters. Scott is vying for the Congressional seat of the 52nd District, which is currently held by Republican Brian Bilbray. Scott was raised in Detroit, Michigan, and went onto obtain his undergraduate degree from Duke University, after which he served as an economist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It was there that his passion for the environment emerged, and he went to New York University School of Law to earn his law degree. His law firm brought him to the San Diego Area where he practiced environmental law.

His political career began with his election to San Diego’s City Council, where he served two four year terms. In 2008, the mayor nominated him for the appointment of Port Commissioner, and after the City Council’s Approval he was sworn in January of 2009. Scott has continuously been a part of several non-profit organizations that focus on improving the surrounding communities and the environment. Scott stepped down as Port Commissioner in January of 2012 after the Port Authority had met many of the milestones that it had outlined for 2011.

The discussion was interesting as Scott Peters discussed the important issues San Diegans face at a national level.
