Richard and Joe’s guest was San Diego Port Commissioner Bob Nelson. Bob has represented the City of San Diego on the Port Commission since January 2011. He is also a California Film Commissioner, appointed by State Assembly Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins. The California Film Commission is the one-stop resource for film and TV production across the Golden State. Nelson’s appointment is a positive step forward to restore the film and television industry in San Diego County.
President Bill Clinton named Nelson to the U.S. Competitiveness Policy Council. He has served as chair of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, San Diego LGBT Community Center, City of San Diego Revenue Review and Economic Competitiveness Commission, and the City of San Diego Public Utilities Advisory Commission. Nelson serves on the Fisheries and Aquaculture Ad Hoc Committee and the Board of Directors of CleanTECH San Diego, a non-profit organization that positions San Diego as a global leader in the clean technology economy.
Prior to public service, Nelson built one of America’s largest independent public relations agencies. His clients have included American Water, Anheuser-Busch Companies, the Association of American Railroads, California Teachers Association, The Irvine Company, San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
