The guest was Art Barter, CEO of Datron World Communications, Inc. and the founder and CEO of the Servant Leadership Institute. In 2004 Mr. Barter purchased Datron World Communications, Inc., and served as the Vice President of Finance, and was able to implement a servant leadership style of management.
The guiding principle behind servant leadership is that it is the leader’s responsibility to serve the interests of the employees and the community in which the company is surrounded, NOT the company’s fiscal best interests. By fostering these interests, the company and its employees grow in prosperity and social awareness. Many people view the idea of servant leadership as a method that will help restore the public’s faith in the business leaders of America. While the philosophy of servant leadership was first pioneered by Robert Greenleaf at AT&T back in 1968, Mr. Barter is working to make this innovative approach to management more widely used throughout the business world.
