Then Richard and Joe Moved on to the compelling story of Childhelp
Mary Ann Crisci, President of the San Diego chapter of Childhelp a national non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse explained how caring for children in the dark days of Vietnam that led to ChildHelp. Founded by Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson in the 1960’s and originally called International Orphans Inc. (ICI), Childhelp is working diligently to prevent the tragic loss of five children every day to child abuse. An impressive 90 cents of every dollar donated to Childhelp goes directly to fund abuse prevention and treatment programs.
What does this have to do with Vietnam?
Good question. The founders of Childhelp, Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson, were instrumental in Operation Babylift which evacuated over 3,000 orphans from South Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam war.
Tragically, the first rescue flight of Operation Babylift crashed after takeoff killing 138 people, mostly children.
Richard and Joe will interviewed a survivor of the crash, Löan Shillinger, who has become a successful attorney with her own practice in San Diego specializing in civil and criminal asset protection. Ms. Shillinger related her experience after being airlifted.
Ms. Crisci was Director of Surgical Services at Scripps Health from 1999 to 2008.
Ms. Shillinger received her B.A. in Justice Administration from Hawaii Pacific University in 2000, and her J.D. from California Western School of Law in 2004. She has been a Court Attorney to the Supreme Court of Micronesia and an Associate in the Law Offices of Russell Robinson.
