Art Barter photaArt Barter, founder, and CEO of The Servant Leadership Institute (SLI). Art is known globally as an advocate for servant leadership and believes, “How we get results is more important than the results themselves.”

servant-leadership-logoTo teach people about the power of servant leadership, Barter started in his own backyard by rebuilding the culture of the manufacturing company he bought in 2004, Datron World Communications. Barter believes the most important measure of his companies’ success is how many people they have helped. Since the establishment of the Datron Charitable Fund in 2006, the employees of Datron and SLI have given over 900 grants in 47 different countries in addition to serving its customers around the world.

“How we get results is more important than the results themselves.”

The guiding principle behind servant leadership is that it is the leader’s responsibility to serve the interests of the employees and the community in which the company is surrounded, NOT the company’s fiscal best interests. By fostering these interests, the company and its employees grow in prosperity and social awareness. Many people view the idea of servant leadership as a method that will help restore the public’s faith in the business leaders of America. While the philosophy of servant leadership was first pioneered by Robert Greenleaf at AT&T back in 1968, Mr. Barter is working to make this innovative approach to management more widely used throughout the business world.

Mr. Barter was named to 2017’s Top Thought Leaders by Trust Across America.
