This week’s guest was Phil Blair, Executive Officer of Manpower-West who, along with his partner Mel Katz, has built Manpower Staffing of San Diego into the largest Manpower franchise in the United States providing approximately 4,000 jobs daily. Manpower provides quality employment opportunities for thousands of San Diegans. Manpower’s training programs range from community work to veterans programs—preparing them to enter the civilian workplace.
Mr. Blair is an oft-quoted employment commentator, appearing in local and national business media. He speaks professionally on employment and workforce trends and issues, and he’s also a a career coach. He authored the best selling book “Job Won!: 500,000 Hires and Counting” which is a complete guide to finding and managing a successful career in today’s economy. The book has proven to be a helpful tool in colleges, and it also helps Veterans transition into the civilian workforce. Mr. Blair offers monthly seminars on changing careers and finding your dream job. He is an Executive Professor in Residence at the University of San Diego’s School of Business Administration.
As an active member of the San Diego Community, Mr. Blair currently serves on the board of directors of: San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Downtown San Diego Partnership, CONNECT, the San Diego Economic Development Corporation, and the San Diego Downtown Rotary Club. He also served as a member of the San Diego City Council representing the 5th district, the San Diego Convention Center, the San Diego Police Foundation, the San Diego Foundation, and he was the commissioner to the Fair Political Practice Commission in Sacramento for four years.
Mr. Blair is a 1971 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He and his wife Catherine reside in Del Mar. Their grown sons live in San Diego and Chicago.
